Happy Holidays!

whatever you are celebrating, and be it some free days before the new year is starting. Happy holidays!

For the notorious "Wichtelaktion" on Animexx.de, which I took part the sixth year in a row.

For a Secret Santa activity on deviantART.com. I like the 'vector' lineart in Paint Tool Sai. It's easy and doesn't look too stiff.

A commission from growabrain.tumblr.com. He's collecting art of and for his daughter Adora.

All done in Paint Tool Sai.

mugs

Advent snapshot. These are the mugs I used in the past 2-3 days. The frog with the crown mug was a gift from trenchmaker.

Calendar illustrations

I made a small art calendar together with Asja and Caro to promote our project oh (only in German, sorry. We ship to other countries, too, if you really want one!)

The cover design is actually from 2010, but it fitted our theme: Foxes!

And I made the months of March, May, August and November. March is my favourite. People seem to like the May...

Birches

My first time of drawing an intense kiss. Two women, too. I'm pretty pleased with the emotion, the trees and colours. The short haired's neck and arm are weird. And I fail at muscly arms... need to study more anatomy.
Actually I think it's my best painting since a long long time.

Completely done in Paint Tool SAI.

recent sketchery in Sai

I'm "rediscovering" Paint Tool Sai, after sometimes trying sooo hard in PS and failing. Too many tools, brushes behaving unnatural etc...

inktest

testing to ink with brush on watercolour paper. it makes very individual lines, but is hard to control in small curvy detail

I used a 0 sized Sablinsky brush and Winsor&Newton black on 200g rough paper

I know the colouring is terrible =D

my background picture

By the way, did you ever view my background image? It's a photograph of Chiwa, my mothers Dane that died in 2007.
On normal screens you usually don't see the dog, only the beautiful August meadow...

teeth themed artfolio pieces, part 1

they didn't take my application, but I like some of the stuff in this teeth themed portfolio.

These depict the life phases based on teeth. In German particularly the false teeth are called 'third teeth' or just 'thirds' („die Dritten"). So these are named 'First Teeth, Second Teeth, Third Teeth'.

They were done on ivory coloured sketch paper with lead pencil and neon yellow (highlighter) coloured pencil. For online display I edited the colours, because usually highlighter colours lose all their brilliance when scanned. No need to explain that here, hm?

collection petals, a job to my taste

Today I visited my mother. Now in October there's a lot to do in the garden. For example collecting roots, fruits, leaves and ... petals? befor the first frost.
Petals are great for salads and other foods, but they are scarcely available in winter. So you can collect and dry them.

Today I collected
Bellis perennis
Calendula officinalis
Dahlia
Lithospermum purpureocaeruleum (what a name!)
Phlox
Tropaeolum majus
Viola tricolor

candle

I just found this thing from September. I tried to draw a candle from memory.
I think I succeeded with the wax and the overall colour but failed to draw the flame. Which I only noticed after comparing my drawing with photographs. I mostly draw without reference and many things do not look credible... I need to study more. More. More.

"Pick me up, please!"

Since I have flatted dozens of panels for Anne, I wanted to do something flat, too.

watercolour sketches

I love watercolour. You can't do almost anything wrong with it. If you're good you can make it look incredibly clean and regular, or the other way around let the paint and water do the job on their own and control nothing.
My current handling of watercolour is something inbetween. I want to try both loosening up and fully control the medium. Uhm, but better not at once.

Here are some new sketches.

I doodled a bit on this sheet of watercolour paper. The hydrangea and the dog in the grass were done with watercolour pencils.

My favourite is this ...fantasy flower. It looks pleasant although the colours are all 'wrong'. Maybe I will explore this colourfulness a bit more..
